What is myWeboo?

myWeboo Inc. is an Internet Solutions company that specializes in web based solutions involving Personal Information Management. The website http://www.myweboo.com is the Web Application that helps in managing (uploading, editing, browsing, sharing, …) users digital assets that are stored across multiple hosts, web sites/services such as Picasa, Facebook etc.

Why would I use myWeboo?

Most people have digital assets (files (dcouments, presentations, excel sheets) , music, pictures, videos etc. in multiple sites. For e.g. When mySpace was the rage, plenty of people uploaded their pictures to mySpace. Some migrated to Facebook. But still continue using both. If you feel a need to manage your digital assets across multiple sites from one easy location, share it with people who may or may not be your “friend/connection” on these sites, then myWeboo is designed to help out in this endeavor.

Using myWeboo, you can browse, view, edit, move, copy your data from one “drive” to another. A “drive” could be your Personal Computer, a Weboo provided storage, Facebook, Picasa, Youtube etc.

You can use myWEBoo as a remote file explorer for files in your PC. (i.e. you can download our “WEBoo Connector” and access your home computer files at work or other locations).

Finally, even if you dont use these Social Networks, you can take advantage of myWEBoo to store  about 1 GB worth of free storage (subject to change) in the “cloud”.

There are plenty of Social “Status/Tweet” aggregators. Why do we need one more?

Yes. We get it :-). There are plenty of Social Aggregators (such as FriendFeed etc.) out there and more are cropping up everyday. Some of these are really good at what they do (e.g. aggregate tweets/status updates).

myWEBoo does provide some features that fall in the realm of “Social Status/Feed Aggregation” – BUT, thats not our main goal. We use it as an example of whats possible with myWEBoo and lets face it, most folks understand this use case as its so popular and well understood. myWEBoo has a more generic goal of being the management solution to all sorts of data – not just status updates and pictures – on the web that is “owned” by you the user.

It also aims to help you share your data in unique ways without you having to get locked down into a particular service. For e.g. myWEBoo helps you share Pictures stored in your mySpace account with folks who may or may not be your “friend” in mySpace.

Actually, you dont even have to upload any of your pictures anywhere and **still** share your pictures and other files with your friends. You can do this my storing these files on our PC, use our WEBoo PC Connector and then share these files with your friends via a public or password protected link (web URL). (note: This will be accessible by your friends provided your PC is running and you have the PC Connector started).

So, really, we are not “yet another social feed aggregator” – give myWEBoo a try!!

Do you store my auth credentials (username/password) to Facebook, Youtube etc.?

No. We use OAuth (http://oauth.net/) which ensures that you only provide you Auth Credentials to these services directly to them. A simple explanation of OAuth is that its a technical protocol/framework that lets sites such as myWEBoo collaborate with services such as Picasa, Facebook etc. in terms of authencation and permissions. For e.g. when you add a  Facebook drive, myWEBoo directs your browser over to Facebook. You then login (provide username/password) to Facebook directly and let Facebook know that you are ok with granting myWEBoo permission to access your Pictures and Status messages. myWEBoo has no access your Facebook username/password!

Next time you login to myWEBoo, you dont need to repeat this. Thus it even saves you the hassle of logging in/remembering multiple username/passwords on multiple sites.

Whats more, you can at any time revoke the permission you had granted to myWEBoo if you do not wish to continue using myWEBoo.

Are you trying to be another Facebook (insert your favorite brand here)?

No. We are not trying to replace any existing Social Networks. These social networks are good at what they provide. We believe that there will not be one single social network/site that everyone will use. One service might dominate and be popular for a given period of time. Instead, we embrace the fact that multiple networks/sites are  a reality and this is both a boon and a bane. With multiple networks, it becomes hard for a user to maintain his data across all these networks. This is where myWEBoo comes in. Social networks come and go. Some will stay. myWEBoo provides a buffer for you while you are accessing these networks. This way you are not tied/committed to any one social network in terms of your digital data.

Whats the  best way to upload my pictures from my iPhone/PC to sites like Picasa/Facebook using myWeboo?

Assuming that you have your pictures in your camera or cellphone, follow the instructions provided with your device (usually plug it into your PC with the USB cable) to copy over the images over to your PC. Now you have two choices. Assuming you have WEBoo PC connector started, you can then just drag and drop the folder in PC to any of the web service/drives such as Facebook and or Photobucket, Flickr, Picasa etc. Or you can browse to the Upload Files link on myWEBoo and directly upload these pictures to sites (i.e. WEBoo drive) such as Facebook.

How can I share my Drive/Folder/File or Pictures that I have uploaded to myWeboo?

Browse to the Drive/Folder/File in your myWEBoo WebTop page. Click on the Share Icon. The URL on which this resource (drive/folder/file) will be shared is shown (when you check the option). Use the Action bar to tweet, email etc. the URL provided. Optionally you can also assign a password that will be required to access this resource.
